DETROIT — West Catholic football is the division five state champions after a 42-14 win over Notre Dame Prep on Thursday night at Ford Field. It's the Falcons first state title since 2017.
West Catholic got on the board first thanks to a 79-yard touchdown from Grady Augustyn to Thomas Puksta. Augustyn's one-yard touchdown run gave the Falcons a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
Early in the second a Connor Olszewski touchdown run gave West Catholic a commanding, 21-0 lead. Augustyn and Puksta would combine for a 25-yard score before the half and this game was a blowout.
The Falcons led 28-7 at the half and in the the third Cal Peterson and Christian Patterson each had a pick-6 to put the game to bed. West Catholic would cruise the rest of the way to finish off its first state champions
