Two Barnegat residents were arrested and charged with cocaine following a traffic stop in Stafford, authorities announced Monday, Dec. 1.
At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, the drug enforcement unit conducted a motor vehicle stop at Route 9 and Sugarhill Road, Stafford Township police said. Detectives believed Crystian Cerrato-Mejia and Alejandra Oyuela were possessing a controlled dangerous substance and deployed Venus, a narcotic K-9, to conduct a sniff of the vehicle, police said.
Venus gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics odor coming from the vehicle and the vehicle was seized pending a search warrant, which later turned up cocaine.
Cerrato-Mejia and Oyuela were charged with cocaine possession, authorities said.
