An 8-year-old child was killed over the Thanksgiving weekend in a fiery traffic crash on a rural road in the far eastern reaches of the San Diego area, authorities reported Monday.

The fatal collision took place at about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 25000 block of San Felipe Road in the San Felipe Valley, northeast of Julian, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim's name was withheld pending completion of family notification.

Several relatives of the child also were injured in the crash, which left one vehicle overturned and another on fire, according to a county spokesperson and the CHP.
