Russia has warned the West of "consequences" after NATO threatened to unleash "pre-emptive" strikes on Moscow. A Kremlin mouthpiece claimed the alliance is now preparing for a "major war" between the two, as fears of World War 3 skyrocket.

Tensions have already been rising between NATO and Moscow as mediators work to get a peace deal drawn up to end the war between Russia and Ukraine .
