The Rhode Island State Police charged a 19-year-old Central Falls man for hitting a state police cruiser as the cruiser was driving by in the opposite direction on Nov. 29.
The Central Falls man was driving an eastbound Ford Explorer at a high rate of speed on Fales Street when he hit the side fender of the westbound cruiser, state police Capt. Jeffrey L'heureux said.
The Ford Explorer also made contact with a parked car, which made contact with a second parked car, said L'heureux, adding that the trooper sustained minor injuries.
Police say driver attempted to flee
Both the driver and a passenger in the SUV tried to flee the scene but were arrested soon after the crash at about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, L'heureux said.
The driver was charged with driving under the influence
