BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
The Jefferson County coroner released the name of the 26-year-old man shot and killed by a Birmingham police officer late Friday night in the Kingston area.
Jamal D'Angelo Williams, of Pinson, was shot on 45th Street North before midnight after police responded to ShotSpotter reports.
When they arrived, they saw a crowd of people arguing. When they approached the crowd, one of the people told them that a man had a gun.
Police said the man and the officer made contact, and at some point during the encounter, the officer shot him.
WVTM 13 is working to gather what led up to the shooting.
Officers provided lifesaving measures to the man until Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and took him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
