ST. PAUL — Fewer than 24 hours after he was a healthy scratch, veteran receiver Adam Thielen was waived by the Vikings on Monday, Dec. 1. If he clears waivers, Thielen will be free to sign wherever he would like.
In a statement released Monday by the Vikings, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said Thielen and his representation asked for his release last week, expressing a desire to play a bigger role moving forward.
After taking those conversations into consideration, the Vikings granted Thielen his release this week, giving him a chance to find a new team with a little more than a month remaining in the regular season.
His departure puts a sour end to a Minnesota homecoming that was hyped up in August after the Vikings acquired Thielen in a trade with the Carolina Panthers.
