GREENSBORO, N.C. — Many people will be out buying Christmas trees this weekend, and for Boy Scout Troop 316, it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The troop receives its trees from a farm in West Jefferson, and sales cover nearly 80% of the group’s annual operating costs, including monthly trips, registration fees, and scout training.

Lee Murray, the troop’s treasurer, said the lot usually sees a spike in shoppers immediately after Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

“Tomorrow, Saturday, is one of our busier days, but our busiest day is probably next Saturday,” Murray said. “We have a float in the downtown Christmas parade, and usually after the parade, we get a flood of people coming in.”
