RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - State Sen. Mark Peake says he is stepping down as the chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia at the end of the year.
“I will be stepping down so that The RPV can elect a new Chairman who will be able to devote their full time, energy, and attention to defeating this Referendum and then leading us to victory in the 2026 U.S. Senate and Congressional races,” he said in a statement Monday.
Peake’s resignation comes after Democrats swept the top offices on Election Day.
He was chosen at the GOP chair in April.
“It has been an honor to serve,” Peake said. “To every Virginia Republican, thank you for the trust you placed in me and for your unwavering dedication to Virginia’s future.”
Peake says he will continue to serve as a state senator.
