Honolulu firefighters rescued an injured hiker in his 80s on the Wailupe Gulch Trail in Aina Haina Sunday morning.
The 911 call came in at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The Honolulu Fire Department responded with six units and 18 personnel, with the first arriving on scene about 10 minutes later.
A man in his 80s had reportedly fallen about 10 feet on the trail, and was unable to descend on his own. Firefighters hiked up the trail by foot and reached the hiker’s side to perform a medical assessment and provide basic life support.
HFD’s Air 1 helicopter airlifted the man to a nearby landing zone, where care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services at 12:43 p.m. EMS took him to a hospital emergency room in serious condition.
No other injuries were reported.
