KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The City of Knoxville is planning to host a public meeting Wednesday, Dec. 3 to answer questions about the future of Serene Manor.
The meeting will be held at the Knox County Health Department, located at 140 Dameron Avenue. It’ll also be held virtually via Teams , with a link being made available on Dec. 2.
Serene Manor is located at 970 Wray Street. It was built in 1933 as the Rosenwald Wing of Knoxville General Hospital for treatment of Black residents and has also served as a privately-run residential care facility.
In August 2024, the city acquired the property. It now plans to issue a Request For Proposals, which will see developers pitch ideas for the building’s use. The aim of the meeting is to guide the decision process with public input.
