SHAFTSBURY — A propane leak caused by a vehicle led to the closure of Route 7A near West Mountain Road for more than two hours on Saturday night.

At about 9:45 p.m., the Vermont State Police received a report of a propane leak in an underground tank on the front lawn of a property at 3345 Route 7A, near West Mountain Road. The information received was that a tractor-trailer unit attempting a U-turn caused the damage. Whoever caused the damage had left the scene.

Shaftsbury Fire Chief Joe Vadakin, contacted Monday, said the leak came from a 500-gallon underground propane tank. A vehicle drove over the above-ground part of the tank and broke off the valve.
