RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) — Leaders from Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia answered questions Monday about recent controversies at their schools during a Senate education subcommittee hearing.
UVA interim president Paul Mahoney backed the university’s agreement with the Department of Justice without support from other board members. Rector Rachel Sheridan and Vice Rector Porter Wilkinson were invited to attend but did not show up.
Mahoney addressed UVA’s agreement with the DOJ, which was investigating the university over claims that it failed to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
