The use of artificial intelligence is on the rise and a Missouri lawmaker wants to regulate the technology use. The machine-based technology could provide adaptive, human-like responses to users and can meet a user’s social needs.
Rep. Scott Miller, R-St. Charles, is proposing to ban companies from giving children access to some AI companion chatbots. Miller wants to ban people who run a website, app, software, or a program from allowing children to access companion chatbots for recreational, relational, or companion purposes.
Under House Bill 1742 , they would be required to verify the age of their users.
