A Raceland man who was killed in a hunting accident over the weekend was shot as he was passing a rifle to a friend, investigators with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Monday.
Garret Verdun, 45, was shot in the head near Bayou Folse Road at around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.
LDWF officials assisted with the investigation and said the rifle discharged as Verdun and his hunting partner were crossing a cattle guard on the walk to their hunting spot. Verdun was hit by a .308 caliber bullet and died before paramedics arrived, according to LDWF.
His body was turned over to the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office.
