MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - The door is now open for voters in Wisconsin having to navigate new congressional maps for next year’s mid-term elections.

Redistricting has been a hot topic around the country, but Wisconsin appeared immune when the state Supreme Court unanimously rejected two separate challenges to the state’s maps back in June.

But last week, the liberal majority on the court appointed two separate, 3-judge panels to hear two lawsuits accusing the maps of being gerrymandered in favor of Republicans. One of those judges is Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Emily Lonegran.

Republicans have held six of the congressional seats for the last 14 years in a state that is widely regarded as purple, alternating parties in each of the last 4 presidential elections.
