ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) - The Elyria Fire Department responded to a report for a house fire early Monday afternoon.

The report was called to the 800 block of Rosewood Drive, and crew found a working fire in the basement that was rapidly spreading to upper floors.

Fire crew were able to contain the fire to the basement, but the first and second floors sustained major heat and smoke damage.

According to a release, there were no injuries reported but the home is uninhabitable from the damage.

The fire department was on scene for over two hours and the damage is estimated at $40,000 on the north side of the residence.

Lifecare and Sheffield Village Fire also assisted on scene.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with emergency lodging.
