OMAHA, Neb. —
Downtown Omaha lit up in bright lights for the Holiday Lights Festival in 2001, but there was something missing.
"Looks like Charlie Brown's unlighted tree," said one Omahan.
Silhouetted against the glow of other holiday lights in the Gene Leahy Mall, a tree stood, waiting for its decorations.
"I think not everything can shine brightly," said another resident.
The tree without a single strand of lights got the community theorizing.
"It makes me think, did they do that intentionally," said one woman.
"Maybe they had to go to lunch," offered a kid in the park.
Whatever the reason, the community gave the unlit tree a little extra love.
