ANNAPOLIS, Md. —

The 138th mayor of Annapolis is a husband, father, hardware store owner and former Democratic alderman.

Jared Littmann was sworn as mayor at an inauguration ceremony on Monday before he then administered the oath of office to all eight members of the Annapolis City Council.

Littman thanked his family, called his father an inspiration and outlined his priorities and goals at an event that focused on the city's history dating back to the 1600s and its future.

"A strong, well-run city depends on all the systems working well together," Littman said.

He promised to improve public safety, city services and communication and finish the City Dock project .
