MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - A Marion man who receives monthly SNAP benefits said the impacts of delayed payments due to the federal government shutdown are still being felt weeks later.
Josh Rohn of Marion receives just under $300 a month in SNAP benefits. He qualifies for the program based on his income. He also lives with health challenges.
For about three years, he has used the benefits to purchase food and drinks to help him take his medications.
“With having medications, it’s easier for me to take them with food so I don’t get nauseous or get sick,” Rohn said. “Having food stamps helps me get food and drinks, so I’m able to take medications daily and have food to eat.”
He was one of many people in Iowa who had their benefits delayed because of the federal government shutdown.
