SHREVEPORT, La. - A huge update for a Natchitoches family.
Three-year-old Lydia Rachal, who has Sanfilippo syndrome type B, a rare terminal condition known as "childhood Alzheimer's," now has a real chance at life.
Families were told they needed to raise $3.8 million by today just to be considered for a lifesaving expanded-access treatment and $6 million by spring to stay eligible
Late last night, Lydia's mom, Morgan shared an emotional update on Facebook saying, they didn't just meet the goal, they "crushed it."
Communities from all over the ArkLaTex and the world raised $4.2 million, and two foundations stepped in with major contributions:
$50,000 from the national MPS society.
$1.2 million from the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation.
That brought the total to $5.45 million.
