COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County School District training bus hit a utility pole, bringing down a power line on Monday, authorities said. The school district said no students were on the bus.

A photo shows the damage near the intersection of Atlanta Road and East Dixie Road. According to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the single-vehicle accident, and the only people on board was the trainer and the trainee driver.

Deputies said the trainee stopped legally at the railroad tracks, but after the stop, the bus jolted when they accelerated to go forward.

"In a moment of panic, the trainee pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes, causing the bus to strike a utility pole," the sheriff's office said.
