Syracuse, N.Y. - A citizen-comprised board responsible for monitoring Syracuse police conduct has had at least 57 cases expire before they could be reviewed.
Citizen Review Board officials told Syracuse common councilors Monday the number of cases that it won’t be able to review could be even higher.
State law requires complaints against police to be addressed within 18 months of the incident.
Many of the cases, which were filed in 2023, reached their statute of limitations under the past CRB administration.
The previous CRB administrator, Ranette Releford, resigned from her position in September 2024 amidst allegations substantiated by the city’s human resources department that she had fostered a hostile work environment.
