Fran Wilson was sworn in as Akron City Council's Ward 1 representative on Dec. 1.
Wilson — the second out-LGBTQ+ person elected to council — said they're "eager" to bring a queer perspective to city politics.
On Nov. 24, council members gave outgoing Ward 1 Councilman Samuel DeShazior a warm send off, highlighting his years with the city, business acumen and good-natured demeanor.
Becoming Akron's Ward 1 councilperson wasn't something Fran Wilson initially planned to do.
