Federal prosecutors in Detroit are asking a federal appellate court to dismiss the appeal of the ex-Detroit Riverfront Conservancy CFO that requests his 19-year prison sentence for embezzling more than $44 million from the nonprofit be tossed and he be resentenced.

William Smith's attorney filed the appeal Nov. 18 with the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.
