PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Road rage crashes in Arizona have doubled from about 500 per year to more than 1,000 between 2020 and 2024, according to state data. The number of people killed has also doubled from three to six per year.

The increase comes as traffic enforcement has decreased statewide, officials said. The Phoenix Police Department’s traffic unit has dropped from 200 officers to about 30.

“All over the state traffic enforcement has decreased in its priorities with agencies,” said Jesse Torrez, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety .
