Despite all the fussing, agitating and scheming, Strongsville officials don’t actually have the nightmare traffic situation they’ve been claiming as they seek an expensive highway interchange.
The stunning revelation had Today in Ohio podcast hosts questioning Monday how the proposed project could have gained so much traction. For years, local lawmakers have painted a picture of traffic Armageddon in Strongsville, pushing for a new I-71 interchange at Boston Road that residents of nearby Brunswick vehemently oppose. The political maneuvering became so intense that legislators even snuck the project into the state budget.
Now, the first data from a comprehensive two-year NOACA study has revealed what some suspected: it was all political theater with little factual basis.
