U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey married Alexis Lewis this week in two separate ceremonies honoring the cities that shaped them, according to Parade .

Booker, 56, and Lewis, 38, exchanged vows first at a courthouse in Newark, followed by a second ceremony for family and friends in Lewis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.

The couple announced their engagement in September, Parade noted.

“Overflowing with gratitude. We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful,” Booker wrote in a social media post .
