LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - On World AIDS Day, a local nonprofit that works to raise HIV awareness said they are continuing to provide services and are administering about 20 to 30 tests a day.

According to Pillar, they have seen more people in the community reach out to get tested. While they could not share how many of those tests came back positive, they said it is encouraging to see so many residents taking a proactive approach and getting tested.

“Pretty much everybody who comes through to see our prevention staff has been tested for HIV and our PREP services, which currently are free and are specifically to help individuals with prevention of HIV,” said Eduardo Reyes, Pillar.

In honor of World AIDS Day, the Pillar hosted an HIV testing marathon Dec.1.
