Texas families interested in using the state’s new school voucher program can begin applying in February, according to final rules released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
Former state Sen. Kelly Hancock of North Richland Hills, now the acting Texas Comptroller, announced the final rules for Senate Bill 2.
“These administrative rules, like the program itself, put Texas parents in the driver’s seat,” Hancock said in the announcement. “We are executing the letter of the law as passed by the Legislature, and we’re doing it with families and students at the center of every decision.”
The debate over school choice vouchers was among the most contentious issues during this year’s legislative session in Austin.
