What you need to know about Greater Manchester’s first Your Party councillor .

A councillor in Salford has joined Your Party, the new political outfit founded by ex-Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana. John Warmisham, representing the Pendleton and Charlestown ward, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) today (December 1) that he has made the decision to sit as a Your Party member in the council chamber.

It comes months after he resigned from Labour and accused the party’s national leadership of ‘no longer representing the communities that it was set up to serve.’ The LDRS understands Mr Warmisham is the first Your Party councillor in Greater Manchester.

He previously said he plans to stand down in May 2026 after more than three decades in politics,
