BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) - Louisiana’s first surgeon general, Dr. Ralph Abraham, will take on the new role of principal deputy director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a move that may raise questions about vaccines around the nation and in the Pelican State.
Dr. Abraham took on the role of surgeon general in June 2024 after Governor Jeff Landry signed a legislative bill that created the Office of the Surgeon General within the Louisiana Department of Health.
It’s unclear if this new role at the CDC will allow Dr. Abraham to craft policy changes on the federal level.
Earlier this year, Dr. Abraham directed LDH to cease promoting mass vaccination and advised patients to talk to their doctors about vaccinations instead, which are views KALB Political Analyst Greg LaRose
