A person is dead after they crashed while driving in Tewksbury on Sunday night.

The crash happened at around 9:33 p.m. on Main Street, underneath the Interstate 495 overpass, according to the Tewksbury Police Department.

It involved one car, a grey SUV, which was found lodged against the bridge by first responders. The car was heavily damaged and resting on its side, police said.

The driver — and sole occupant of the car — was brought out of the car by Tewksbury firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver may have had a medical issue before the crash. The investigation is ongoing and active, being conducted by local and state police with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
