DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – As temperatures plummet into the deep freeze, the homeless are looking for places to shelter for the night. Decatur has two shelter locations: God’s Shelter of Love for women and children, and the Salvation Army for men ages 18 on up.

God’s Shelter of Love has an emergency shelter that opens its doors for women and children at 5 p.m. each night. A hot meal is served at 6 p.m., and can hold up to 18 people.

The Salvation Army opens its doors at 5 p.m. and also serves a hot meal for dinner and a continental-style meal for breakfast with coffee.

“We don’t want anybody to die,” Major Randall Summit told WAND News. “That’s what it’s all about, a life and death thing.”
