SALT LAKE CITY — Before the sun comes up while most of Salt Lake City is sleeping, Tony Fa is at Millennium Dance Studio. He’s the heart behind Xtreme Hip Hop and Xtreme Burn. What goes on in this studio goes way beyond breaking a sweat. It’s friendship, culture, music and motivation all wrapped into one, and it hits you the moment you walk in.

Class starts at 5:15 a.m. and there’s no easing into this high-intensity workout. It’s fast, loud and high energy.

“It is kind of like a hip hop version of like, Tae Bo,” said Fa.

Regulars like Betty Vakapuna love every minute of it.

“It’s the music that gets you going. It’s cardio,” she said.
