LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Retail Federation predicts that nearly 187 million people will shop Black Friday through Cyber Monday. That’s around three million more than last year.

When shopping is as convenient as scrolling through an app on your phone, it can be hard for small businesses to compete with larger stores.

Jonlyn Scrogham, who owns A Novel Romance bookstore in Jeffersontown, said being able to build community through her business is where small businesses shine.
