MADISON, Wis. — South central Wisconsin experienced its first major snowfall of the season this past weekend, with Madison recording its single snowiest November day in history as over 9 inches of snow blanketed the area Saturday.

The significant snowfall came as forecasters predict overnight temperatures will plummet below zero later this week, creating potentially life-threatening conditions for people experiencing homelessness in the Madison area.

Madison Street Medicine, a local advocacy organization that provides healthcare access and housing assistance, warns the extreme weather could pose serious risks to vulnerable populations.

"I've had clients who have lost fingers and toes due to frostbite," said Olivia Deschane.
