Starting next year, travelers without an acceptable form of ID will have a new option to fly — but it comes with a cost.
Beginning February 1, 2026, passengers who cannot present an acceptable ID at airport security will be able to pay $45 to use TSA Confirm.ID, a modern identity verification system, valid for a 10-day travel period.
TSA says this option is meant for those who do not have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, and travelers are strongly urged to update their IDs at their local DMV as soon as possible.
The process will vary by airport, and TSA is working with private partners to allow online payments before arriving at the airport. Travelers who do not pay in advance can pay at designated locations near the checkpoint.
