The holiday weekend got a little longer for students in the Anchorage School District thanks to Mother Nature.

Freezing rain over the weekend made roads slick across Anchorage and parts of the Mat-Su Valley, prompting the district to close schools on Monday. Meanwhile, the Mat-Su Borough School District implemented a two-hour delay.

Despite the icy conditions, many drivers said the roads weren’t too difficult to navigate. “Well, a little bit dicey on the side roads and the neighborhood streets, but the main road seemed pretty good,” said Anchorage resident Guy Brousseau.

Another resident, Amber, added, “I didn't have any problems. It wasn't really icy, it was just muddy and slushy.”
