RICHFIELD, Minn. — When you think of jellyfish, you’re likely imagining a marine jellyfish capable of inflicting a painful sting on humans and potential predators.

You’re likely not envisioning a tiny harmless jellyfish that can be found in Minnesota lakes.

Minnesota DNR Invertebrate Biologist Don Eaton says freshwater jellyfish are rare, but there are a handful of verified sightings on record.

“I think there’s maybe about a dozen records from Minnesota,” Eaton said.

One of those rare sightings happened in October of this year at Taft Lake in Richfield.
