U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick said Monday that while he supports American military attacks on international drug cartels’ infrastructure, they must be carried out within accepted rules of combat.
McCormick, commenting after a visit to Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County, echoed concerns raised by a growing number of senators about published reports that a military commander authorized a second strike on a suspected drug boat this summer to kill two apparent survivors of an initial hit.
The allegation, f irst reported by The Washington Post on Friday, is that the commander leading the Sept. 2 strike ordered the second strike because, in theory, the suspected smugglers could contact allies to salvage their cargo.
