MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Changes are coming for customers of The Greater Ouachita Water Company.

GOWC announced it will switch its disinfectant across the system for several weeks in December. In a letter to customers, the water company says it will temporality switch from cholormines to free chlorine between December 1 and December 21. The letter goes on to say free chlorine will help clean the water pipes and disinfectant all points in the distribution system.

During the change, customers could see a change in water taste and smell but the company says the water is still safe and will continue to meet the FDA chlorine requirements.
