WISCONSIN (WQOW) - Giving Tuesday is a chance to give back, but it's also a time to remain vigilant against scammers who prey on generosity.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Department of Financial Institutions are working together to raise awareness about making safe donations.

When it comes to giving money, Michelle Reinen, the administrator of DATCP's Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, said organizations should be able to provide their address, phone number, and a clear explanation of how the donations will be used.

According to Reinen, some red flags include demanding immediate payment or using questionable payment methods like gift cards.
