Detroit — Dozens of Detroiters showed up to a public event Monday evening to offer their input to Mayor-elect Mary Sheffield on a range of issues and help shape policies she vows will spread the city's rebounding fortunes to more neighborhoods and residents.

Between 60 and 70 residents showed up for the community engagement event at Marygrove Conservancy, the base of Sheffield's Rise Higher Detroit transition team, which is being led by nearly four dozen prominent city leaders.

It marked the first chance for the public to discuss ideas in person with the city's new mayor and ask questions about the policies Sheffield intends to pursue in her first 100 days in office and beyond. The Rise Higher website has a comments section for residents to leave suggestions.
