Chelsea Ziss has made history in Maumee, becoming the first female mayor and the youngest to hold the office in the city’s history.
Ms. Ziss, 36, was sworn in as the new mayor on Monday during the regularly scheduled council meeting.
“It’s great to be up here. It’s been an interesting road to get here,” she said, pledging to continue to work hard, question everything, research topics, and do the best for everyone.
She is serving the remainder of Jim MacDonald’s term, which extends through December, 2027.
Ms. Ziss resigned from two council seats — the one she was appointed to in August and the one she won in the Nov. 4 election. City council will appoint individuals to fill both vacancies, with those appointees required to run for re-election in 2026.
