Florida lawmakers have advanced a plan to increase E-Verify by private employers in the state, and Gov. Ron DeSantis leads the charge to look into AI use by insurance companies.

Florida lawmakers are debating whether to require all private employers in the state to verify citizenship prior to hiring an applicant.
House Bill 197 advanced through the Florida House Industries and Professional Activities Subcommittee, and it’s now being considered in the Commerce Committee.
Under this measure, every private business would be required to use E-Verify.
E-Verify is the federal database that allows private employers to verify whether an applicant is authorized to work in the United States.
