Phones were down at Hillsborough County Department of Corrections in Manchester on Thanksgiving Day, preventing incarcerated people from talking with their loved ones on the holiday.
The phones were shut down over the weekend of Nov. 22-23 as part of a countywide response to a “cybersecurity incident.” County officials said some systems were taken offline to protect their network and data.
Most of the affected systems were restored the Monday before Thanksgiving, but people in the Valley Street jail couldn’t contact their friends and family until Saturday, according to Leah Emond, the partner of an inmate.
