LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — Louisiana wildlife agents are investigating a deadly hunting accident in Lafourche Parish after
Officials say 45-year-old Garret Verdun was found dead near Raceland on Saturday, Nov. 29. His body was turned over to the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Agents were called around 4 p.m. after getting word that a hunter had been shot on Bayou Folse Road. When they arrived, they learned Verdun had been "hit by a .308 caliber bullet and died before any first responders could arrive," a release said.
According to the friend who was with him, the two were walking to their hunting spots and had just crossed a cattle guard. Verdun handed the rifle to his hunting partner, and that’s when it fired, killing him.
