NEW ORLEANS — Almost a full year since , a memorial to honor the lives lost was officially lit up Monday night. The Second Line in the Sky is made up of nearly 1,000 handmade prayers flags suspended across twenty historic buildings, stretching for three blocks on Bourbon, from Canal to Conti Streets.
It was in these three blocks that on New Year’s Day morning, a man, inspired by ISIS, drove a truck through crowds of revelers. Outside of the fourteen people killed, dozens of others were injured in that attack.
The Second Line in the Sky display was developed with victims’ families and survivors. The goal is to transform grief into light while honoring the second line tradition of New Orleans.
Organizers hope people who come see it will pause and reflect.
