Motorists have been given a crucial reminder regarding the correct procedure for overtaking cyclists. Failure to adhere to these regulations could result in breaching the Highway Code.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took to social media platform X to clarify precisely how drivers should navigate past bicycles. The DVSA stated: "When overtaking cyclists, give them as much room as you would when overtaking a car.
"Leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking at speeds of up to 30mph and give them more space if you're driving at higher speeds, at night or in bad weather." This guidance is reinforced by official Highway Code rules, which can be accessed online here .
